Diabetes Care

Diabetes is a condition in which a person has high blood sugar the cause of which can be due to the body not creating enough insulin or the cells not responding to the insulin produced (Type I and Type II respectively).

Estimates by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) project the number of people living with diabetes to increase to 380 million by the year 2025 if effective prevention or control programs are not implemented.

While there is no known cure for diabetes it is a manageable disease from which – if controlled properly through diet, exercise and medication – a person can continue to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle. The main method of managing diabetes is through periodically administering insulin into the body and monitoring the blood sugar level.
